Sun Visors

5 June 2003

When I first bought a Ruby, yes we all start somewhere!, it was in un-restored condition and had its sun visor including the dangerous blade of glass. This was laminated glass with a middle layer of a dark brown / black plastic which gave it the same appearance, and effect, as traditional sun glasses.

Now we own an RP Saloon and I have obtained a sun visor for this car which I understand was originally fitted to some of the RP Saloons. It is very similar to the Ruby version but the plastic inner layer of the glass sandwich is a deep red / orange, more like the hippy style sunglasses worn in the late 60's 70's. Was this normal as the glass appears to be original or has it been replaced at some stage?

The inner plastic ( or was it celluloid? ) layer has obviously shrunk over the years but looking at the sandwich of glass and plastic at the top of the visor where it is held by the clamp it looks as if it is original.
