 Windscreen Frames & Speedos.

12 June 2003

What information do you have on RP saloons equipped with the RN stove enameled steel frame I have seen a couple and have been asked to supply one.

Was the RP ever equipped with a needle type speedo?  I don't think it was but a friend is restoring a 1933 RP and insists it should have a needle type.

You have been busy, regards Dave Mann    sue.mann1@ntlworld.com

Dave,

First, I've never seen an ORIGINAL RP with a needle speedo, If your friends speedo failed, say in the 40's or 50's then a needle type may have been used to replace the 'Magmo' one. (A number of items on my car are dated 1951 - early '52, this correlates to when the 2nd owner bought the car in late '51 and got it back on the road.

I'll have to look further into the stove enamelled frames.
Many thanks for your enquiry.
The above are not definitive answer's, I shall investigate them further before casting in stone..........

Dave,

I agree with Sandy over the speedo. as far as I am aware the RP was fitted with a 'Magmo' speedo with the flat spinning disc. The pointer type speedos were introduced during the life of the Mk 1 Ruby, the early Rubies still had the 'Magmo' type.
